NexGen Educational ScholarshipSince 2023, AMRIC has paid for young Cameroonians to study abroad, so they can come home with the skills to keep more of the value of our cocoa, coffee and crops here, where they are grown.
Approved by the AMRIC Executive Board, each 2026 award is worth €15,500 towards tuition and living costs for an undergraduate degree abroad.

2026 NexGen Scholar
Congratulations to both scholars. We look forward to seeing you put your training to work for Africa's agribusiness value chain.
A farmer in the South West can grow some of the best cocoa in the world and still receive only a small share of what a bar of chocolate sells for. The roasting, grinding, chocolate making, branding, trading and financing mostly happen outside the country, and that is where most of the money is made.
Changing that takes people who understand those steps from the inside: how buyers think, how contracts and shipping work, how a product is processed, packed, certified and sold. NexGen exists to train those people, and to bring them home.
“NexGen is an initiative of AMRIC aimed at empowering the next generation of business leaders in Africa through educational training.”
From the 2026 award letters, signed by Celvastine Tendi, CEO, AMRICEvery step between the farm and the customer is a job, a business or a skill Cameroon can own. These are the steps, in the order the crop travels.
Agronomy, climate-smart farming, soil and seedling care, and running cooperatives that farmers trust.
Fermentation, drying, grading and quality testing: the work that decides whether beans sell as average or as premium.
Bean to bar chocolate, cocoa butter and powder, coffee roasting, herbal teas. Turning a raw crop into a finished product here.
Product design, food safety, certification and marketing, so a Cameroonian product can stand on any shelf.
Export rules, contracts, shipping and traceability, so the buyer knows exactly where a lot came from.
Market research, investment and credit for farmers: the work AMRIC itself does, and needs more people to do.
We send scholars abroad because the best place to learn international trade is next to the buyers, processors and markets our crops end up in. But a scholarship only pays off for Cameroon when that knowledge comes home.
Our hope for every NexGen scholar is that they return to strengthen the value chain: by joining a cooperative or a processor, starting a business of their own, or working alongside AMRIC and the farmers we serve.
New scholars are announced on this page. Join our newsletter, or write to info@amric.org, to be told when the next round opens.
Companies, foundations and members of the diaspora can help AMRIC send more young Cameroonians to study each year. Every chocolate and tea sold on this site supports the farmers who grow it.
